Budget boost for Fullbright programme

ABU DHABI — UAE scholars interested in pursuing research in America will have more opportunities as the US government has increased budget allocations for 'Fullbright' educational exchange programme, said a visiting US education official.

Gary L. Garrison, Assistant Director, Council for International Exchange of Scholars from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in US, was addressing reporters at a Press conference at the US embassy.

Garry is in the UAE to discuss with local colleges and universities the possibilities of placing US citizens for teaching and research projects in the UAE and encourage UAE applicants for the same prospects in US through Fulbright educational exchange programme.

Fullbright is sponsored by the United states Government to increase mutual understanding between the people of US and other countries. The programme has so far provided more than 250,000 participants — chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study and teach in each other's countries, exchange ideas, and develop joint solutions to address shared concerns.

"While providing opportunities for citizens from Muslim countries to teach or do research in the US, we also encourage our citizens to pursue the same in local universities here in order to provide them a direct access to the Muslim world," commented Gary.
