“I didn’t expect participation of such large scale and momentum,” Shaikh Hamdan said while receiving camel owners Hamdan Ghanem Al Falahi and Rashid Ali Al Mansouri, winners of the first Al Bayraq lap at the camel beauty contest (Camel Mazayen) at his Liwa Palace on Thursday. In the contest, each contestant was required to participate with a group of 50 camels, and the grand prize for the first winner for both Asayel and Majaheem camels was Dh1 million.

Shaikh Hamdan added the festival has registered unprecedented movement of selling and buying.

“The 10-day festival has earned the UAE and its citizens a good reputation outside the country as organisers of the world’s largest camel beauty competition given the tremendous participation in terms of the number of elite camels and camel owners and breeders,” he added.

This festival is part of the implementation of the ADACH strategy to preserve the cultural heritage of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The festival has succeeded in promoting UAE’s heritage and culture and put Al Dhafra on the world tourist map in a short time. —
