Cap target for cabbies

IT IS imperative that the authorities set up a committee to establish a ceiling on the daily revenue that taxi drivers must generate as targets, and ensure that they are committed to this ceiling. This will serve as guidelines for taxi companies to streamline and control the relationship between the cabbie and the management, so that their interests are mutually beneficial.

In the absence of a cap on the ceiling for revenue generation and setting unrealistic targets only encourages violations and increases the possibilities of several dangers. Many a time, one has seen taxis parked in places other than those designated for cars. They not only violate traffic rules but often stop suddenly to pick up passengers.

Some cabbies have also been seen changing lanes at high speeds, virtually turning the streets into race tracks, just to catch a passenger. This kind of road behaviour explains the many road accidents that take place, which are invariably caused by these cabs. Reckless driving is among the causes of accidents, which in turn cause companies losses.

Therefore, it is imperative that a ceiling on targets for taxi drivers is fixed. It will automatically lead to control of vehicular traffic and minimise the number of road accidents.
