Martyr's Day was observed with a minute's silence and in other unique ways by government bodies, companies and schools on Wednesday.

Adnoc honoured employees performing national service, by placing scarves in national colours with the 'UAE National Service' logo and the UAE flag on every national service employee's desk.

The UAE Minister of State and Adnoc Group CEO Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said: "We are proud of all our employees who have the honour of carrying out national service. We encourage our employees to perform this duty and gain the honour of contributing to the security, safety and stability of the country.

"It is our national and moral duty to always remember our heroic armed forces for their courageous efforts to protect our homeland. The least we can offer our national service heroes is a reminder that they are appreciated and remembered and their return is awaited. This initiative seeks to unify the hearts and minds of Adnoc's family and instill in everyone that we all share the same ideals and we are all working as a family towards achieving the best for the country."

Separately, Abu Dhabi Education Council director-general Dr Ali Al Nuaimi stressed the importance of Commemoration Day as a way to recognise the moral courage of the heroes, who have fought to bring the rest of us freedom and dignity.

"November 30 is a day to honour martyrs for their integrity, courage, and loyalty, who sacrificed their lives in the fields of civil, military and humanitarian services in return for the nation's peace, harmony and freedom", he said.

Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Center Director General Rashid Lahij Al Mansoori said: "The ADSIC is deeply honoured to join the UAE and all its citizens and institutions in saluting the country's brave martyrs, to pay homage to their sacrifices and dedication to the nation."

Schools across the Capital held a minute silence at 11.30 am with students being in their classrooms.

In a unique way, the Petroleum Institute students visited child cancer patients at Khalifa Hospital.

Director of collaborations and external relations Ebrahim Al Hajri said: "At the PI, we are keen to instill these values in our students by encouraging them to engage in activities and initiatives that improve their social responsibility awareness and prepare them to contribute positively to society."

Malls also held events to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs.
