With no marks to affirm a conclusive topper in Grade 10, the move towards a grading system caused fewer upsets in the schools. The introduction of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system (CCE) and school-based evaluation has lead to a more consolidated assessment of students as a general improvement in performance was recorded in most schools across the UAE.
“CBSE has done a very good job with its new evaluation system. The student report cards provided by the CBSE grade the students on their overall performance over a period of one year. Students are not under the pressure to perform for marks as there is improvement in their performance,” said Vandana Marwaha, principal of DPS Sharjah.
While taking the board exam is optional for students, they can still opt for a public exam where 40 per cent of the evaluation is done by external examiners from the CBSE.
Also, the new assessment cycles have reduced the probability of a student’s failure as they can score with multiple choice questions, projects and activities.
A combination of the summative and formative assessments, the new report card grades students in core areas which include scholastic and co-scholastic activities. Students can view their results by logging on to http://cbseresults.nic.in.
This is the second year where students are being graded on a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) system devised by the CBSE to reduce the pressure of examinations faced by the students.
