A frustrated parent from Sharjah complained that till now the CBSE authorities have not cared to send the mark sheets to UAE schools, placing unnecessary hurdles for his child and other students who have already left for India or elsewhere for further studies and the authorities do not entertain applications without mark sheets.
"This agony of waiting for the mark sheets is too much to bear for the students and the parents," he said, complaining that under the present circumstances, it is clear that the authorities are indifferent towards the well-being of students who are the next generation.
Another parent, S.K., pointed out that this was the first year he was facing this ordeal. His older son who passed grade 12 two years ago did not undergo this ordeal. "I wonder why this time my daughter, who is in India waiting to get admission into a college in Mumbai, has to wait for her mark sheet."
"If there is any further delay, my daughter may not be able to get admission at this prestigious college in Mumbai," the parent expressing concern said, but hoping the CBSE officials will end the ordeal and dispatch the mark sheets to the UAE schools soon.
Sympathising with the students, the principal of a Dubai-based school said, "The authorities in Delhi should have compiled the mark sheet in advance and dispatched them to overseas schools either a day before the declaration of results or on the same day."
"These documents are usually dispatched by courier and it takes three working days to receive them in the UAE," he pointed out, adding, the schools are unnecessarily faced with the ordeal of pacifying students and their parents until the mark sheets are received.
He said he had enquired with the CBSE official in Dubai recently and was informed that the mark sheets had been dispatched by Speed post on May 31. So we hope to receive them in a day or two, the principal said.
However, another principal of a CBSE-affiliated school in Sharjah blamed the delay on the growing number of CBSE-affiliated schools within and outside India and the increasing volume of work pressure on the authorities.
He said, "Delay for a few days is understood under the circumstances."
"As a result, my school makes provision to issue `conduct letter' and a reference certificate indicating the student's pass or fail status and the aggregate percentage obtained so that they can present them at the time of applying for admission to higher education institutions in India and elsewhere."
Most schools have this provision and furnish it to students and their parents upon request, he said. He requested parents and students to be patient and in the meantime use the provisional mark sheets or reference letter until the original mark sheets are received.
