Celebrity plastic surgeon 
to start practice in Dubai

DUBAI - A renowned plastic surgeon and reality TV star from the famous ‘Dr 90210’ show, Dr Jason Diamond, has chosen Dubai as his first overseas destination upon huge demand.

The plastic surgeon, who currently practises in Beverly Hills and says he has treated Arab royalty, is expected to complete his licensing formalities in Dubai by next week and start practising at the American British Surgical and Medical Centre by November.

In an email interview before his arrival, Dr Jason told Khaleej Times that the Middle Eastern patients are among his favourite patient population because they are “always polite, pleasant and worldly”. “I really enjoy spending time with them,” he said. A number of patients are already lined up for consultation, he added.

The anti-aging business is now a multi-billion dollar global industry, including in the Middle East that continues to witness growing demand for products and services, say experts. This has attracted an increasing number of physicians to open clinics locally.

“I have many people fly from the Middle East to see me including a large number of royalties. I have taken care of patients from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Iran and Egypt,” he said.

According to Dr Jason, there is a huge demand for cosmetic procedures in the regional market. “I am seeing patients from here who travel to see me in Beverly Hills every month and many of them have strongly encouraged me to travel to meet the regional demand.”

Full facial rejuvenation procedures and rhinoplasties are the most in demand among local patients which may include procedures such as facelift/necklift, brow lift, upper blepharoplasty to eliminate the excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, lower blepharoplasty, chin and cheek implants, lip lifts, fat injections to the face and even otoplasty to pin back protruding ears.

“The most common rhinoplasties that I perform are those where I am reducing a bump on the bridge and reducing the fullness and the size of the nose tip,” said the doctor who has been honoured with “The Outstanding Achievement in Aesthetic Surgery Award 2010” and “The Best Facial Plastic Surgeon Award” by his peers and colleagues at The Aesthetic Show Las Vegas 2008.

“Some patients may require one or two of procedures and others may want to have all of these procedures depending on the severity of their facial aging as well as their personal desires.”

Dr Jason’s stay in Dubai each month will depend on the number of procedures he is performing for duration of 10 days after the last patient has been operated upon.

“When someone flies to Beverly Hills to have surgery with me, I let them fly home 10 days later because this is the amount of time that I require to make sure that they are healing well.”

‘Dr 90210’ is a reality TV series that focuses on plastic surgery in the wealthy suburb in Los Angeles, California. The show, which is currently being telecast in the region, features interviews, semi-graphic footage of the surgeries, and before and after footage of the patients.
