RAS AL KHAIMAH - The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) of Ras Al Khaimah has fined a cement factory in Khowair Creek for repeatedly failing to get rid of its waste leading to pollution of the environment.
Dr Saif Al Ghais, Executive Director of RAK EPA said that a large number of residents have been complaining of the dust from the factory. The EPA fined the factory after confirming the negative effects on the environment as part of its efforts to continuously monitor factories that fail to follow environment protection rules and regulations.
The EPA obliged the factory to pay fines based on Federal Law No 24 for the year 1999 of environment protection and development. It also made it necessary for the factory to fix the damages they caused in the area.
Al Ghais stressed on the importance of factories and establishments operating in the emirate to abide by the standards that help protect the environment from pollution so as to maintain a healthy society and pollution-free environment for the residents.
He pointed out that most industrial establishments in the emirate are following environment protection standards. And, follow up on these factories will continue throughout the year. EPA will not tolerate violation of environment rules that endanger public health, he added.
