The family’s business history is deeply entrenched in pearl trading roots, which has expanded exponentially and as a result the company established its now thriving real estate, banking and trade divisions.
“Pearl trading and real estate is a family business we inherited after our father passed away. In 2008, Modern Building Contracting was established which is an offshoot of our real estate establishment,” revealed Chairman Ali Humaid Al Owais.
Best known for real estate rentals and development as well as trading, business is robust primarily due to generations of experience in real estate management. “It all began during the construction phase of some of our properties and we had hired contracting companies for this purpose. It was at that point we decided to start a contracting company to construct our buildings,” opined Ms. Haleema.
One of the leading construction companies in Sharjah, Moderna Building Contracting has also started operations in the emirate of Dubai. In addition to this, the establishment has successfully nabbed prestigious projects amounting to 500,000 square feet of built-up area.
Implementing vertical integration by starting its own subsidiary companies, Moderna is also able to cater to requirements pertaining to electromechanical, plumbing, cutting and fitting aluminium frames, aluminium cladding and glass projects.
Talking about the journey, Al Owais commented: “Business is always competitive, and cliché it may be but dedication and hardwork are the only two crucial elements over market leadership or having an edge over others. But most important of all is that nothing can be achieved without Allah’s blessings.”
Acknowledging UAE’s real estate market’s great potential, both siblings agree that the country has still a long way to go. As far as the family business is concerned, it is the company’s commitment to deliver excellence and quality work. This in turn has not only positioned the establishment as a market leader, but also enabled client retention and loyalty. “The family firmly believes in giving back to the community which is why we develop environment-friendly buildings,” said Al Owais.
Highly optimistic about growth especially in the wake of the Expo 2020 win, Ms. Haleema added: “Definitely the Expo 2020 will have a huge impact not only on our business but the entire country. It will also increase awareness of the UAE as a trade hub and will show the world that we offer a stable business environment.”
The company is forward thinking and has sustained during the worst of times through intelligent planning and sharp business acumen but most importantly by looking after its staff.
