Charity number plate auction on May 12

ABU DHABI — A special number plate auction will be held on May 12, the proceeds of which will go to people with special needs and as compensation to victims of road accidents, the Vehicle Licencing Department of Abu Dhabi Police announced yesterday.

The auction, under the theme “Unique number plate for noble objective”, will be held at the Emirates Palace Hotel.

Over 40 numbers plates will be up for auction on the day, including same digit numbers like 505,55555 and 5. The starting price of these numbers is estimated at Dh250,000. In the two digit group, the number plates going for auction are 12,16,45,55,67 and 88. There will also be 10 numbers of the three digit group and 12 numbers for the four and five digit groups.

Lt. Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Kamali, Director of Privatisation and Financial Investment, Interior Ministry, said participants would need to pay a Dh50 fee to attend the auction event.

“The auction is open to people of all nationalities and a person can own any number of numbers,” he added. Lt. Colonel Mohammed Mayouf Al Ka’abi, Director of Vehicles and Motorists Licencing, said registration for the auction would start on May 6. “A licensing desk will be available at the auction site to proceed with licensing formalities for the new owners of the number plates,” he said.
