Chastising a twit

LIVING THE LIFE of a tech zombie or living your life and posting it in 140 characters for your social network followers can be a dangerous thing to do.

We all know about Facebook stalkers, divorces arising out of online affairs and frauds emanating from living your life for everybody on your social network to see.

Tech billionaire Michael Dell found out to his consternation recently that his daughter, Alexa, has been living a dangerously indiscrete life, posting almost every detail of the family’s everyday life, on her Twitter account. He found out after the head of the security service that he pays a jaw dropping $2.7 million annually to protect his family, called him to tell him about his daughter’s latest post on a social network site. It happened to be a photo of her brother Zachary tucking into a generous breakfast on board their luxury jet, while the family was on the way to Fiji for a vacation. Alexa had put up the picture on her Instagrama account from where it quickly went viral , getting on the internet through a site called ‘Rich Kids of Instagram.’ She had also linked it to her Twitter account.

Dell, who himself has 55,000 followers on Twitter saw red when he realised that his daughter has been living a dangerously open life, exposing her every action on Twitter, including GPS locations from her phone. An invite to her high school graduation dinner, with date, time and location was the screaming limit.

It is not surprising then that the billionaire has shut down his daughter’s Twitter account. One can’t blame him, really. This should be a lesson to all the parents out there who provide internet access to our kids but don’t really know what they are up to.

WELSH ACTOR Richard Burton disagreed when people said he was married to the most beautiful woman in the world. Calling her “the most beautiful woman in the world is absolute nonsense. She has wonderful eyes, but she has a double chin and an overdeveloped chest, and she’s rather short in the leg.”

And yet, Hollywood’s heart throb for decades married his Cleopatra two times consecutively, the second time a mere 16 months after he ended their stormy first marriage. Together, the handsome couple kept Hollywood and fans involved and enchanted with their fairy tale romance, even though theirs was a tempestuous, stormy relationship. In between his bouts of drinking, Hollywood’s highest paid actor spoilt her impossibly, lavishing the famed La Peregrina pearl, one of the most historic pearls in the world, previously also owned by Kind Phillip 11 of Spain and Queen Mary 1. ON her 40^th birthday, he bought her a heart-shaped diamond, famously saying of his purchase “I would have liked to buy her the Taj-Mahal but it would cost too much to transport.”.

Now, extracts from his personal diary, which was in the possession of Sally Hay, talks about his “aching” love for the temptress that he met on the sets of Cleopatra. “She has turned me into a model man but not a prig, she is a wildly exciting lover-mistress, she is shy and witty, she is nobody’s fool,” he writes in his diary. “She is a brilliant actress... she can be arrogant and wilful, she is clement and loving. She is Sunday’s child, she can tolerate my impossibilities and my drunkenness, she is an ache in the stomach when I am away from her and she loves me. And I shall love her for ever.”

In 1976 their tumultuous relationship finally ended and barely a month later Burton married model Susan Hunt, and remained in that marriage till they divorced in 1982. From 1983 until his death in 1984, Burton was married to make-up artist Sally Hay.

The full diary will be published in October this year and we think it will be a great read. Sometimes, love is a hard thing to understand.

Tiger roars in Bollywood

THERE IS A new tiger roaming on the loose in India. He goes by the name of Salman Khan and looks like he is all set to topple the original Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan. And maybe, even Aamir Khan .

Word is out in trade circles that Bollyood’s bad boy Salman Khan is now the industry’s most bankable Khan, the man who made a record Rs 100 crore plus in just the five days of his latest movie, Ek Tha Tiger. The 48-year old Khan is now miles ahead of the younger lot of heroes in Bollywood who still struggle to find a foothold in a world dominated by Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman.

Sallbubhai as he is fondly called in the industry plays a loveable spy for the India, who takes on the most formidable tasks for his country, till he meets and falls in love with a Pakistani spy. The duo then decide to abandon their employers and find romance in locations that span the UK, Cuba, Turkey among others. When he is not romancing his former real-life lover, Katrina Kaif, Sallubhai takes on villains by the dozen, break their bones, jump of impossibly high ramparts and buildings and comes home to cook dal for the spy agency’s bossman.

Like in every one of his movies in the past, Salman Khan forces you to leave your reasoning brain behind and put on blinkers to ignore flaws in the movie His own logic is simple: Why bother with logic when his bare chested appearance on screen is enough to make a couple of hundred crores?
