McNeil Consumer Healthcare has issued a voluntary recall for 40 over-the-counter infant’s and children’s liquid medications including Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl after consulting with the US Food and Drug Administration.

The recall has also been issued in the US and 10 other countries.

This is the second time since the start of the year that the US-based company manufacturing the medicine has issued a worldwide recall.

In January, the company recalled affected batches of Tylenol Extra and Tylenol Arthritis in the UAE, Fiji and America due to presence of a musty odour that was making people sick.

The children’s medicines were made and distributed in the US, and exported to Canada, the Dominican Republic, the UAE, Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Kuwait.

The company is advising consumers to stop giving the products to their children as a precautionary measure. The recall was not undertaken because of any adverse effects, the company said.

The company is recalling the products because some did not meet the required quality standards, the company said in a statement.

Some of the products recalled may have a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified on the bottle. Others may contain particles, while still others may contain inactive ingredients that do not meet internal testing requirements.

Pharmacies across the emirate also continued to stock and sell the medicine. Details are available on www.mcneilproductrecall.com
