RAS AL KHAIMAH — Municipal inspectors yesterday seized huge quantities of cigarette-shaped chewing gums from several grocery shops in the emirate.
The owners of the grocery shops were also fined and issued warnings.
The cigarette-like chewing gums could entice children into the habit of smoking real cigarettes, said municipal officials.
The Director-General of RAK Municipality, Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, said several complaints had been received from people about the grocery shops that were selling the cigarette-shaped chewing gums.
Adel Ali Al Deek, Head of the Public Health and Environment Department in RAK Municipality, said the municipal inspectors will continue to ensure that such products are withdrawn from the shops in the emirate.
