Civil Defence stresses safety rules for Ramadan tents

ABU DHABI — Nationals and residents who wish to set up a Ramadan tent inside or outside the house should contact the Civil Defence to get acquainted with the safety regulations.

These include providing appropriate fire extinguishers, sand base, automatic electric disconnection in case of short circuit, in addition to refraining from other hazardous practices like smoking, barbecue and burning scents or "Bakhoor" inside the fabric tents.

The Civil Defence General Directorate has stressed on the need to abide by the safety and precautionary measures to prevent fire accidents, and preserve Ramadan's atmosphere and social gatherings in the tents, which are set up to observe the holy month in "Bedouin" style.

The head of Civil Defence Department, General Mohammad Salim bin Kardos Al Amry, stated that the second tent fire accident took place in a private Ramadan tent in Dubai last Saturday, resulting in no causalities, while destroying the whole tent.
