Classification of 100 drugs completed

ABU DHABI — The Central Drug Control (CDC) Department at the Ministry of Health has completed classification of more than 100 new drug products of local and foreign pharmaceutical companies prior to registration, said an official source at the ministry.

Upon registration, these companies will be able to sell their products.

"The Pharmaceutical Products Classification Committee yesterday classified 58 pharmaceutical products as general sale products, while 10 other items were categorised as conventional drugs," he told Khaleej Times.

He said local and foreign pharmaceutical companies have approached the ministry to classify a total of 102 items in a step to register them with the ministry. "Classification procedures precede registration after which these pharmaceutical companies will be able to market their product," said the official. He said the committee classified six items as non-medicinal products and seven were placed within the list of herbal medicines.
