The UAE is a melting pot of cultures and faiths, and what keeps the society peaceful and flourishing is the religious tolerance and mutual respect among its citizenry. The leadership of the emirates has set high standards by granting rights to all to practise their religion, and build respective places of worship too.
Reciprocating the magnanimity of the leadership of the emirates, different communities organise interfaith harmony and peace programmes. In October, it was the Dubai-based GuruNanak Darbar Gurudwara that organised a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi with a delegation of 150 Sikhs including children and families.
The visitors toured the mosque and admired Islamic architecture and calligraphy on the walls of the mosque, which is a landmark in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. The participants were briefed on the role played by the mosque in highlighting the Islamic culture.
"We all admired the 1,000 pillars, seven crystal chandeliers and the world's largest carpet. The experience was invaluable and we all appreciated it greatly. The entire team looking after us was very professional and caring and we would sincerely like to thank each one of them," said Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of the GuruNanak Darbar Gurudwara.
The trip was organised in coordination with Szgmc as part of the Interfaith Harmony and Peace programme on behalf of the Gurudwara.
