Consuls’ wives attend Islamic lecture

DUBAI — More than 150 ladies, including the wives of various consul generals, attended a lecture and a Suhoor gathering held at the house of Perihan M. Salem, wife of the Egyptian Consul General in Dubai, yesterday.

Salem who came to the UAE two months ago told Khaleej Times that Ramadan is the month of "devoting ourselves to approaching and submitting to God."

"The main aim of the gathering is to gather the maximum number of Muslim women under one roof where we can talk and discuss topics pertaining to Islam and its virtues. It’s the time to benefit and learn more comprehensive information regarding Islam.

“It feels great to warmly welcome Ramadan through organising various Islamic lectures where we are surrounded by angels. The lecture is of great benefit to Muslim women and are aimed at going in depth in learning Islamic morals and virtues,” she said.

Salem disclosed that there were plans of organising more Islamic lectures throughout the year and not only during Ramadan, and more prominent Islamic preachers will be invited to deliver lectures.

The gathering featured an Islamic lecture delivered by Eman Al Hashimi, a prominent Islamic preacher who highlighted the major reasons why people are away from their religion and are not devoting themselves in approaching God.

“Depending and relying on others and not on God in everything we do is one of the common mistakes people commit. Communicating with others in anything trivial rather than worshipping God and seeking his forgiveness, preferring to sleep for more than eight hours a day rather than worshipping God, being too lazy to offer prayers on time, backbiting others and useless gossips, envying others, forgetting previous sins and continuing to commit sins are among the main reasons why some Muslims nowadays are quite far from their religion ,” said Al Hashmi.

Al Hashimi added: “Muslims should spend most of their time in worshipping God rather than in trivial pursuits which can be of great benefits in their lives but not on the judgment day where nothing is judged for people except their good deeds. Any Muslim should read more and learn from the Islamic teachings.”

Wives of the consul generals of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Libya, Syria, Kuwait, Niger and Palestine attended the gathering along with other high ranking and prominent women of various nationalities.
