Following consumer complaints about erroneous purchase bill amounts at sales outlets and cooperative societies across the country, the Ministry of Economy has called upon customers to double check their receipts or bills before leaving the store.
Frequent and repeated consumer complaints made of late state that they are often given wrong purchase bills, in many cases charged up to 70 per cent extra of their original bill value.
But staff and managers at stores and outlets attribute the wrong bills to staff errors occurring while scanning the goods' barcodes, or the cashier wrongly scanning the same item twice, especially during store peak hours.
In case they've been handed a bill with an erroneous amount, consumers should file an official complaint at the outlet. Consumers can also lodge a complaint with the ministry, if the outlet fails to respond or take suitable action.
In such cases, the ministry will intervene to resolve the issue.
