Cops honoured for humanitarian work

Dubai - Dubai Police honoured a number of distinguished people for their humanitarian and security work and their efforts in providing great services to the community

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, honoured a number of distinguished people for their humanitarian and security work and their efforts in providing great services to the community, in the presence of Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The honoured personnel include Sheikh Hamad bin Suleiman, Director of the Rashidiya Police Station, and Reem Al Amiri, head of the Victim Care and Child Protection Department at the Dubai Police.
In a recent incident, Reem was noted for responding to a situation where a mother had accidentally locked in her four children at home, after going out to buy provisions. She then contacted the Dubai Police, and requested the force to help her out. The police rushed to her home and succeeded in opening the door.
The woman lived in a one-bedroom flat in an old building in Al Warqa, in poor circumstances as she has been divorced twice, and was living with her children for 7 years. She is unemployed and thus unable to provide well for them.
Reem said that following the case, the department visited her home and found that the children - aged 13, 11, 9 and 8 - lacked basic necessities and a proper diet.
The police also found that the mother suffers from a severe psychological problem, after she switched off her phone to avoid being further contacted by the police after the incident. Communicating with the children's grandmother, the Dubai Police went a step further and provided aid and provisions to the family, moved them to a new apartment and are ensuring they live in good conditions.
The police also honoured Corporal Majid bin Gharib and Corporal Hamad Obeid Jumaa from the Bur Dubai police station's cycling patrols, for their actions in aiding a person whose car broke down near the City Walk area.
Corporal Abdulrahman Ibrahim Mohammed and policeman Humaid Abdullah Hassan from the General Department of Traffic were honoured for arresting a wanted man trying to flee in car.
Maj-Gen Al Marri appreciated the humanitarian role played by the honorees and praised their dedication to the force. He noted that the Dubai Police employees are keen to do their community policing and responsibility and provide humanitarian assistance to the UAE's citizens and residents, preserve security and bring happiness to members of the community.
He praised their services in achieving the objectives of the Dubai Police and performing its mission to the fullest. "Success cannot be an individual act or a personal effort, it should be reflected in the performance of all to bring happiness to people," said Al Marri.
