CPM leader's anticipatory bail plea rejected

Kannur Principal Sessions Court judge VG Anil Kumar rejected his application citing involvement of offences charged under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the case.

Trivandrum: A court in Kerala on Tuesday rejected an anticipatory bail application of P Jayarajan, Kannur district secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), in the case related to the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist E Manoj being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Kannur Principal Sessions Court judge VG Anil Kumar rejected his application citing involvement of offences charged under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the case. This is the second time that the court has rejected Jayarajan's plea for anticipatory bail.
He had moved an application six months ago after he was questioned by the CBI over the conspiracy to murder the RSS activist, who was an accused in a case involving an attempt on the life of Jayarajan. The CBI has cited political revenge over the attack on Jayarajan on the Onam festival day in 1999 as the motive behind the murder of Manoj.
Manoj was hacked to death on September 1, 2014 while he was travelling with a friend in an Omni van at Kadirur in Kannur district. The police had invoked sections of UAPA as the crime was committed after creating a terror in the area by hurling bombs.
