Dubai Police rescued a driver after the cruise control of his vehicle failed at 140kmph.

The motorist, an Emirati, was driving on Emirates Road from Sharjah.

Colonel Faisal Eisa Al Qasim, a senior director at Dubai Police, said police received information about the malfunction on Friday at 4.50pm.

The command centre called the driver and gave him instructions to calm him down.

At the same time, the control centre ordered two police patrols to move ahead and clear the road.

The police gave many suggestions to the driver to help him stop the vehicle, but to no avail.

The driver, in panic, suggested hitting a road barrier or another vehicle in an attempt to slow down, but the police warned him against it.

They calmed him down again and told him that police vehicles will not leave until he is out of danger.

The control room suggested that the driver should approach the patrol car in front of him and make contact with the vehicle. The driver did this several times, before his car finally came to a stop.
