DUBAI — Quad bikers and motorcyclists continued their reckless ways driving on the Dubai beach stretch near Jebel Ali Hotel on Friday evening endangering the safety of families and little children who were there on picnic, notwithstanding the campaign launched by Dubai Police to crack down on such reckless driving by youngsters in public places, especially during Eid.
People also openly burst firecrackers despite the ban on the activity on beaches in the emirate.
The banned activities continued even as police patrol cars made their rounds of the beach. Families complained saying the police patrol posed no deterrent to the miscreants.
People who were on the beach to enjoy their Eid holiday by the seaside and breathe some fresh air said: “The day was marred by the noise of speeding bikes and the pollution caused by firecrackers.”
A picnicker expressing surprise over how the violators ignored the police patrol and said: “It is surprising the police has not arrested these trouble makers.”
Prior to the Eid holidays, Abdul Jaeel Mahdi, Deputy Director of General Department of Preventive Security department at Dubai Police had said that the Police is concerned about people’s safety and therefore the traffic patrols are directed to stop reckless motorcyclists and ensure the safety of road users.
He called upon parents to prevent their wards from riding motorbikes which endanger their life and that of the public. He warned that people who do not cooperate with the police could face legal action if their behaviour posed a threat to public safety.
“People should cooperate with Dubai police and take positive actions to ensure the society’s safety and security ,” he said.
