Deaths on Dubai roads decline

DUBAI — Fatalities on Dubai roads have declined by 42 per cent, which proves that the Road Safety Awareness campaign launched on the directives given by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is a huge success.

According to statistics, 19 deaths were recorded last month as compared to 33 in October.

Eng. Maitha Bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA said, “The campaign which has the participation and support of the Dubai Police with local media partners, especially Dubai TV, shows the death toll has decreased by 42 per cent as compared to the previous month.”

“According to the statistics of last month, only 19 deaths were recorded and the death rate was one every 38 hours as compared to the previous month which recorded 33 deaths with a death rate of one person every 22 hours.” The fatalities recorded last month were also relatively low compared to the overall death toll of the first 10 months of this year which on an average was one in every 30 hours and one injury every two hours. During the same time last year, the death rate was one every 31 hours resulting in 142 accidents recorded, which injured 247 and killed 23.

Entries invited for award

DUBAI — The Dubai Shopping Festival Office is inviting entries for its Innovation Award 2006-2007 aimed at recognising the private sector’s support to the annual shopping extravaganza in the most creative way possible. The award is divided into six categories — Best Shopping Mall Promotion, Best Shopping Mall Decor and Best Shopping Mall Event for the shopping malls and Best Retail Promotion, Most Attractive POS (point of sale) Display and Outstanding Retail Service. Participants can apply for more than one award and the last date for submitting entries is December 19 before 4pm.

TV spots mark du celebrations
