The move comes in response to the instructions given by Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to install defibrillators in public places across the UAE.
A special team from the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police has taken the responsibility of training the staff members on how to operate the device to be able to offer this service.
The department has already installed defibrillators at Marina Mall, Al Khalidiyah Mall, Al Wahda Mall, the Abu Dhabi Mall and Al Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi. The resuscitation device has also been installed at the Bawabat Al Sharq Mall in Bani Yas City and the Al Ain Zoo, as well as the Al Bawadi and Al Jimi Malls in Al Ain.
The defibrillator is used when there are symptoms of circulatory failure (ischemia) in a person with suspected heart failure. The symptoms include fainting, irregular breathing, weak or absent pulse, or absence of circulatory activity.
