A female dentist who was convicted of negligence and medical error in treating a patient's teeth and uprooting one without medical justification has been fined Dh2,000.
The Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi upheld an earlier ruling by lower courts that handed the sentence to the Asian woman after she was found guilty of committing a medical error during the patient's dental treatment.
Official court documents stated that a patient had filed a complaint against the dentist after he was dissatisfied with the diagnosis and treatment of her teeth.
The complainant said he went to the clinic while suffering from toothache. After examining his teeth, the doctor removed a lower and an upper tooth and also treated the third tooth which had a hole and filled it.
And after getting treatment, the man said that he felt the pain again. He then lodged a complaint against the female doctor for poor diagnosis and botched treatment.
An expert medical report showed that he doctor made an error in the diagnosis and treatment of the victim when she removed his lower and upper teeth without medical justification.
Prosecutors had charged the doctor with medical error, not following medical principles and negligence in treating the patient which caused damage to his teeth.
The first instance and appellant courts had ordered the doctor to pay a fine of Dh2,000 after she was found guilty on all counts and told her to pay the legal fees.
She went to Abu Dhabi's top court which has rejected her appeal and maintained earlier rulings.
