AJMAN - A detergent factory in Ajman has been ordered closed and its commercial licence cancelled as it was found adding salt to the washing powder it produces.
The detergent factory that produces ‘RAX EXTRA Power Soap,’ was also found harming the environment by dumping the chemicals improperly.
The company was also slapped with a fine of Dh15,000. This followed inspections conducted by the
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Yehia Ibrahim Al Reyasa, Assistant of the General Director for Licence Affairs at the AMPD, said the owner of the factory was guilty of committing a commercial fraud by mixing salt to the washing powder. “The washing powder was being distributed in the market when we conducted a sample test of the product at the Food and Environment Inspection Laboratory.
“The results showed that the washing powder had nearly six per cent of salt in each pack. We also found out that only five per cent of an active ingredient considered a must for the production of washing powder, existed in the tested sample, whereas it should not be less than 15 per cent as per UAE’s specifications and standards.”
The official said that AMPD was working hard to ensure that all products produced locally meet the earmarked standards and only high quality products are offered to customers.
