The detergent factory that produces ‘RAX EXTRA Power Soap,’ was also found harming the environment by dumping the chemicals improperly.

The company was also slapped with a fine of Dh15,000. This followed inspections conducted by the Ajman Municipality and Planning Directorates (AMPD). It came to light that nearly 15 per cent of salt was being mixed to the soap during the manufacturing process, and the product was of bad quality.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Yehia Ibrahim Al Reyasa, Assistant of the General Director for Licence Affairs at the AMPD, said the owner of the factory was guilty of committing a commercial fraud by mixing salt to the washing powder. “The washing powder was being distributed in the market when we conducted a sample test of the product at the Food and Environment Inspection Laboratory.

“The results showed that the washing powder had nearly six per cent of salt in each pack. We also found out that only five per cent of an active ingredient considered a must for the production of washing powder, existed in the tested sample, whereas it should not be less than 15 per cent as per UAE’s specifications and standards.”

The official said that AMPD was working hard to ensure that all products produced locally meet the earmarked standards and only high quality products are offered to customers.

Majid Al Suwaidi, Head of the Inspection Section at Ajman Municipality, said that the municipality has begun carrying out inspections in all supermarkets and groceries to confiscate all ‘RAX EXTRA Power Soap so as to prevent the consumers from buying it.

He also urged the consumers not to buy such products and call the municipality at the toll fee number 800665 in case they notice any such product on the shelves.
