To promote the Shams Dubai Initiative, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) hosted an Innovation Lab recently.
Shams Dubai Initiative was launched by Dewa to encourage building owners to instal photovoltaic panels on their rooftops to generate electricity from solar power.
The Innovation Lab held at its Sustainable Building in Al Quoz included a workshop for the Shams Dubai initiative and the Taqat energy project, which is a joint project between Dewa and the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI), designed by MBRCGI graduates.
The project employs solar and kinetic energy to generate electricity. Other activities included a brainstorming session to generate innovative ideas, in addition to a field visit to the 660 kilowatt (kW) solar power plant at DEWA's Sustainable Building.
"We organised the Shams Dubai Innovation Lab to carry out the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance government innovation and improve the overall efficiency and performance of government work.
"The programme included workshops on the latest initiatives and a brainstorming session to develop radical ways to come up with new solutions," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa.
"We prioritise innovation and diversification of energy resources, in adherence with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to make Dubai a global hub for green economy, and to provide 75 per cent of the emirate's power output from clean energy by 2050.
