Joint project with Masdar Institute has given Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) a place in the second UAE Drones for Good Award.
The Drones for Good Award award was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to use drone technology to improve living standards. Participating teams will compete in environment, education, logistics, transportation, construction, infrastructure, healthcare, civil defence, tourism, and humanitarian aid for natural disasters.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, said: "To achieve our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and in line with our support for the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make the Emirate the world's most innovative city, we have adopted the best global practices in unmanned drones working in the energy and water sectors."
Dewa has started using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to check photovoltaic panels on its buildings and facilities. The UAVs save considerable time and effort as they completely scan the building's roof, which can provide images with an ultra high definition resolution of over 20 megapixels.
This initiative will greatly improve operational efficiency by accelerating operations, increasing safety, while accurately detecting failures.
A few features
