There's good news for the residents of Umm Al Quwain as the under-construction sewage water treatment station - worth over Dh21million - is set to start trial operation in January 2018.
The ministry of climate change and environment said they have finished 50 per cent construction work of the station in collaboration with the local bodies concerned.
Engineer Yahya Rashid Al Ali, director of municipal affairs coordinating department at the ministry, said the mega project is being carried out at Medafaq area. "It will help ensure a clean and pollution-free environment and make good use of the treated sewage water in irrigation and road pavement works."
The construction work of the station's wall and internal roads are under way, Al Ali stated. "The construction work is scheduled to come to a close in January 2018, following which the trial operation starts."
The station's trial, to end in March 2018, will involve reception of sewage tankers, offloading the sewage water, treating it, and storing the treated water in large reservoirs of 5,000 cubic meters capacity."
Al Ali said the sewage water treatment station is part of the ministry's tireless effort to develop the infrastructure of the sewage networks here in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain.
Engineer Suzan Salem said wastewater treatment is one of the most common forms of pollution control in the emirate. "The emirate has a vast system of collection sewers, pumping stations, and treatment plants."
