Work on the redevelopment started earlier this year and would be completed by the beginning of next year when it would be opened to the public, said Sultan Abdullah Al Mualla, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality.
“The whole project would cost Dh22million,” he said. “It is being undertaken on the directives of His Highness Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, as part of a series of multi-phased projects of redevelopment currently underway in the emirate.” He said the municipality technical department in consultation with a number of architectural consultancy firms in the emirate had developed a unique architectural plan for the square that meets modern standards and preserves the emirate’s heritage and Islamic architectural styles.
