The civic body erected the fences on the two roads because of the volume of traffic and the specified speed limit on the highways, which is 120km/hr, and to prevent the pedestrians, especially the residents of the labour camps in Muhaisna-2 from crossing the road to get to Al Qusais.

The studies conducted on the road, which has witnessed a number of accidents, indicated the need of a fence on the locations between the first and second interchanges. The fence at the Emirates Road is 3.5 kilometres long, and 1.8 metres high.

The fence on the Al Khail Road, located between Bu Kidra Junction and the Dubai Vegetable and Fruits Market, is 5.5km long and 1.2 metres high, and was built at a total cost of Dh2.5 million.
