Dh61 million Aweer bus station project on track

The third phase of the station is expected to be completed by the end of 2007 and will also cost around Dh20 million.

Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority, was briefed on the details of the project during a visit to the site yesterday. He later visited the Dubai Transport Headquarters and the bus station in Ghusais.

"The merger of Dubai Transport Corporation with the Roads and Transport Authority will simplify the work and will ensure major developments," he said on the occasion.

In the second phase of the bus station project several important features are being completed including an administrative building, training centre with the ground floor for the station management, bus operations, and the first floor as the drivers' training centre with a multi-purpose hall.

The station will also include a residency for the staff of two floors with eight rooms on each floor, a main store, an equipment centre, workshop, inspection office, security main office, mosque, drainage and irrigation network, interior lighting, internal parking for 337 buses and several other facilities. The third phase of the station is designed to execute a double bus workshop, a drainage network in the washing and drying area, a planting station, an irrigation network and fencing for the workshop.

The first phase, costing an estimated Dh21 million, includes a petrol pump, an automated hand wash area, bus drying area, maintenance workshop, drainage network, water tank and a car park for 302 cars.

Al Tayer was accompanied by Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, Chief Executive Officer of Public Transport Corporation, Naser bu Shehab, Director of the Projects and Logistics Support Department, Abdul Salam Al Marzouqi, Acting Director of the Public Bus Department and Ammar bin Tamim, Administrative Director in Dubai Transport Corporation.

During the visit, Al Tayer ordered for release of tenders to cleaning and maintenance companies in all bus stations. Other instructions included redesigning the interior of the administrative and training building and expanding the lobby as well as redressing the water assembly and oil in maintenance workshops.

Al Tayer also visited the new DTC building in Al Muheisnah area. Construction of the new building which costs approximately Dh51 million includes three zones; the first for parking, the second for the main headquarters and third for the service facilities like vehicle testing, taxi meter block, car service block, etc.

The new three floors include the main building that covers a total of 8,820 square metres. The ground floor covers 2,763 square metres and is allocated for driver services, cashiers, training and rehabilitation area for drivers and offices.

The first floor covers 2,184 square metres and includes a database receiving centre, operation control section, human resources section, financial department, performance control and employment affairs.

The second floor covers 1,916 square metres and includes the information section, offices for future uses, and the 1,957 square metres of third floor comprises the office of the chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, and the office of the chief executive officer of DTA, an office for the operation director and other offices.
