The Dubai Charity Association (DCA) has started building a new school for boys and girls in the Republic of Mali in West Africa, to give a boost to the education process there.
The school, to cost Dh75,000, will be constructed in collaboration with the Café2go Company — a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development.
Ahmed Mohammed Mismar, Secretary-General, DCA, said the school, which will be completed within a year, is in pursuance of the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his initiatives in Ramadan to support the poor and needy around the world.
“Though the school comprises three classrooms, more tutorial rooms will be added in the future as per demand.”
The DCA has decided to build the school following a study that shows that the people there are in a dire need for education facilities, he added, noting that the school has been named the ‘Emirates National School’.
“Institutions and companies here are advised to support such important charitable and humanitarian projects,” he said. Two years ago, the Café2go Company concluded an MOU with the DCA whereby five per cent of its monthly forever profits would be dedicated for the Association’s charity programmes.
Mismar said the premises will be used as a school in the morning and evening to accommodate more students. “It shall also be used as a vocational training centre.”
Jassim Al Bastaki, founder and general manager of the Café2go Company, said the initiative was aimed to provide an educational endowment to male and female students of Mali.
Mismar told Khaleej Times that the Dubai Charity Association has accomplished 1,163 projects in African and Asian countries. Urging donations, he said the Dubai Charity Association can be reached at toll free (04-2682000) or by mail at: info@dubaicharity. org.ae.
