Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said yesterday that the police was taking pains to make the people aware of their rights by opening communication channels and providing them with assistance.

He was speaking after inaugurating the “Arab Police Human Rights” session, organised to train officers from inside and outside the country on practices and concepts of human rights.

The Force, he said, had established a special department to monitor violations committed against human rights and freedom. “Violations are strictly dealt with and rights of victims granted by law are maintained through the special department,” he said, adding : “We are working for the spread of human rights culture and practices in society, especially among those dealing with execution of law.”

The Force extends extensive support to enhance the partnership with the United Nations Human Rights Commission for better social and intellectual awareness and enhancement of human rights practices in the country, Lt-Gen. Dhahi said.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Mohammed Al Mur, Director of Dubai Police Human Rights Department, said there was concern all over the world for human rights practices and monitoring of violations. “We look for the spread of culture and practice in this regard,” he said, adding that the Force was working to combat probable human rights violation committed by police representatives. “Trainees will be provided with knowledge of human rights concepts, practices and terms.”
