DHC-UNHRN Network set to join hands

DUBAI - Saeed bin Suloom, Director, Dubai Humanitarian City announced that the UAE component of the UN Humanitarian Response Network is to be hosted by the DHC.

The UNHRN is intended to be a network of strategically located logistic depots, available and managed by UN agencies and non-government organisations, to pre-position emergency supply stocks in preparation for humanitarian emergencies.

As a strategy of the United Nations World Food Programme, the UNHRN already includes units in the UN Logistic Base in Brindisi (UN Humanitarian Response Depot), the Asia Regional Response Facility (ARRF) in Cambodia and it is now establishing a reserve in Dubai as part of Dubai Humanitarian City.

“Dubai is making a clear step towards strengthening its humanitarian role and assisting people in need in less fortunate parts of the world.”

“The inclusion of Dubai in the Humanitarian Response Network will boost its emergency capacity and reinforce Dubai’s commitment to support organisations assisting in eradicating global humanitarian crises” said Saeed bin Suloom.

“The Humanitarian Response Network is a mechanism in continuous expansion. In our vision, UN agencies and humanitarian partners will be able to share rapid response facilities and services, increasing cost-effectiveness and improving response times for areas mostly stricken by natural and man-made disasters” said David Kaatrud, Deputy Director of the World Food Programme Transport Division and initiator of the UNHRN.

“With the integration of the Dubai Humanitarian City into the Response Network we will improve coverage and reduce response time in supporting crises in Africa, Middle East and Western Asia,” he said.

Saeed bin Suloom supported the decision to join this recent United Nations initiative and indicated that the Dubai’s early inclusion in the Network is a sign of the forward-looking vision of the City.
