Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, has officially launched the Digital Emirates library project, which he says will be among the most important projects launched by the ministry to encourage electronic dissemination of intellectual and cognitive content.
The project, he added, will focus on spreading works by Emirati writers, authors and creators around the world. It aims to provide access to a million books in local and international culture and scientific fields.
His comments came during an official launch at the Ministry of Culture wing at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
Shaikh Nahyan noted that the project is in line with the UAE's shift towards the dissemination of technical culture and reliance on electronic transactions, driven by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed forces.
Shaikh Nahyan pointed out that the importance of the library comes from providing the most important books and local, Arab and international information sources on the Internet, benefiting readers in various parts of the world and delivering information faster through an accessible national interactive electronic platform and to build a cognitive infrastructure to encourage the industry and the dissemination of knowledge of the United Arab Emirates.
Additionally, Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan called all institutions and publishing houses to join the UAE Digital library.
