The Dubai Traffic Department has recommended that special parking cards be given to disabled drivers. And these will be registered in their licence.
Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Operation Affairs and chief of the Federal Traffic Council said the council has recommended allocation of cards for handicap parking slots which will be handed over to the drivers. This will also be registered in the licence. The handicap sign was made mandatory for cars to reduce the misuse of parking spaces.
He said the cards will be given to drivers who are on wheel chairs or walk with the help of crutches.
Major-General Al Zafin said people sometimes misuse handicap parking slots by using cars with the handicap sign. Such parking spaces are limited and any misuse will make it difficult for the handicapped to find parking.
Hence the cards will be given only to the driver and will this will be mentioned in the driving licences.
The traffic council also recommends a link between the traffic department and the health authorities by suggesting that a report of disabled drivers be submitted to the health department.
