The doctor had previously been suspended from practice for two months for a similar offence.

According to the report submitted by the Quality Auditors of the Health Compliance Department at the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD), the doctor, identified only as working in a specialised medical centre, issued 155 sick leave certificates in April, 136 in May and 195 in June.

The Medical and Pharmaceutical Licensing Committee at HAAD revoked the doctor’s licence and banned him from future practice in health care.

Disciplinary action was also taken against a number of professionals for violating the rules and regulations.

During visits to school clinics, Quality Auditors found four employees working as school nurses without permits or licences.

The Committee warned the schools and dismissed them and notified the Abu Dhabi Educational Zone (ADEZ) and Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). The team also found a receptionist working as a dentist in a health centre.

The Committee sent a warning to the centre and referred the employee to the Public Prosecutor for further investigation. A warning was also issued to a pharmacy after discovering it was disbursing medicines without a prescription.

Zaid Al Siksek, CEO of HAAD, has called on health institutions and professionals to adhere to the systems and policies. He confirmed that HAAD is ready to provide advice and technical assistance to assist in their development.
