The MoU was signed by Dr Essa Kazim, Assistant Director-General, Medical Affairs, Dohms, and by Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice-Chancellor, HCT.

The Dohms and HCT agreed to cooperate in the training of the UAE nationals in the professional healthcare specialisations in support of the emiratisation plan. The MoU also envisages professional development of all Dohms staff so as to upgrade their professional competency and knowledge by arranging short courses in emerging technologies besides developing skills of the UAE nationals in the techniques of indigenous research related to healthcare.

The two organisations will develop separate project agreements to outline their involvement in specific projects such as training of dental nursing assistants programme that is being discussed in detail at present. There is a global shortage of trained and skilled allied health professionals to meet the increasing needs of the healthcare and life science industry.

Both organisations agree that for sustainable development of world class healthcare services in the UAE, it is strategically essential to increase the participation of the UAE nationals in allied healthcare professions such as nursing, medical lab technology, medical imaging, pharmacy, health informatics, physiotherapy, bio-medical engineering, food science and dietician.

Dr Kamali said: “Emiratisation of healthcare industry is currently a top national priority from strategic, economic and social welfare viewpoints. HCT is pleased to be a partner in this significant human resource development initiative of Dohms which would enrich several major initiatives of Dubai towards capacity building of healthcare services.”

Dr Kazim emphasised the vision of Dohms to increase national participation in all its professional sectors and services through this partnership with HCT.
