Foul smelling water polluted with drainage runoff is being pumped into houses, residents claim in multiple complaints filed with municipal authorities. Resident Mohamood Mohammed, said: “The water we receive has a very unpleasant smell, which is a clear indication that it is polluted with the drainage water." Other residents say they experienced similar foul smelling water last year, but claim officials did nothing.

"They just ignore all our complaints and insist that everything is OK," RAK resident Abbas Mohammed Murad said. "We can use this water only for irrigation," he added.

"I have called the Emergency Section of the RAK Water and Electricity Department Water ( RWED) but I received no serious response from them," Murad's neighbour Um Abdullah said.

Those interviewed by the Khaleej Times said when they first discovered the foul smelling water they assumed it was caused by a problem with their own domestic water tanks.

"We emptied our water tank and refilled it thinking that something has fallen inside it and contaminated the water there," one of the residents explained.

People are now buying their water desalination plants for domestic purposes. "Since we have no other solution, we started buying water for

domestic purposes from water desalination plants , which is very expensive," Um Abdullah added.
