In Dubai at least 24 babies were born, with the capital’s Corniche Hospital delivering another 21 — some normally, others planned — on a date that will not be repeated for a century.

Mohamed Juma and his wife became parents for the second time around, when daughter Mariam popped into the world at Corniche Hospital just five minutes into the special date — albeit five days late.

The Syrian family, which includes a three-year-old son, were not expecting the boon after the due date of December 7 passed, with Juma saying his wife had to remind him of the significance of the date. “I’m upbeat about the fortunes this birthdate will bring, but I believe in the will of God more than luck.”

Both baby and mother were in good health, he said.

For Rakesh Kumar and his wife, the birth of his third child at Medcare Hospital in Dubai will always remain special.

“My wife was due to give birth on January 10 but a baby boy was born through normal delivery...on this special date,” he said. “We did not plan it, but yes, this is a special surprise for us…we are very happy,” he added. “His birthday will always be a special day for us.”

Corniche Hospital deputy CEO Mariam Al Mazrouei said they had welcomed scores of babies on significant days ever since it opened more than three decades ago. “Having said that, we know that 12.12.12 is a special date that will never repeat (for 100 years) and we are very happy for the newborns who share this unique birthdate. On behalf of Corniche Hospital, I wish the babies born today at Corniche a very beautiful and remarkable life.”
