Drop in pass percentage in CBSE Class 12 exams

The overall pass percentage of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 board exams saw a drop of 1.13 percent.

The board results were declared on Friday in Delhi, Guwahati and Allahabad.

The overall pass percentage was 79.87 percent compared to 81 percent last year, a CBSE spokesperson said.

The pass percentage for girls was 85.28 percent, compared to 75.90 percent for boys.

The results, which were uploaded on the board’s website www.cbse.nic.in, were declared for the three zones at 8 a.m. In Ajmer, Chennai and Panchkula regions, the results were declared Wednesday.

The overall pass percentage was the highest in Chennai - 92.12 percent.

The pass percentage for regular students was 81.95 percent while it was 41.99 percent for those who studied through correspondence.

This year, 699,129 students - 408,367 boys and 290,762 girls - took the Class 12 board exams in the country and abroad.

Navodaya Vidyalayas surpass others

The autonomous Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) have outdone other schools across India with a pass percentage of 95.31 in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams.

Last year, the pass percentage of JNVs was 94.09.

JNVs are autonomous schools under the human resource development ministry.

The performance of JNVs was followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) where the overall pass percentage was 91.13, a drop of 0.19 percent from last year.

In government schools, the pass percentage this year was 84.49, an increase of 1.68 percent compared to last year.

Independent schools, popularly known as public schools, have registered a pass percentage of 79.42, a drop of 1.52 percent from last year.

Among others, the central Tibetan schools under the CBSE have registered a pass percentage of 79.25 as against 91.15 percent in 2009.


Fewer cheating cases

The number of cheating cases in the CBSE Class 12 exam saw a drop this year compared to last year.

The number of cheating cases this year in the six regions - Ajmer, Panchkula, Delhi, Guwahati, Chennai and Allahabad - totalled 43 against 58 last year, said CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma.

Allahabad, which had the highest number of cheating cases, reported 24 incidents. Delhi and Panchkula region had six cases each. Chennai reported the lowest incidence with only one case being reported.
