RAS AL KHAIMAH — The number of UAE nationals using and dealing in drugs in Ras Al Khaimah is reaching alarming proportions with 17 people arrested by Ras Al Khaimah Police in the past six weeks.
This was revealed by Lt-Col. Salim Yusuf Al Za’abi, Chief of Drugs Striving Section, while addressing mediapersons at Ras Al Khaimah General Police Headquarters yesterday.
He said 17 nationals were found using and selling illicit drugs in the emirate, a crime which is growing at a very fast rate among UAE nationals. “19.13 grams of heroin, 3 grams of hashish, 32.1 grams of ethane and 757 grams of other narcotic tablets were seized from those arrested. It was being used for both consumption and sale,” said Lt-Col. Al Za’abi.
All the suspects, aged between 19 and 30 years, have been referred to the Public Prosecution on charges of drug possession, trafficking and consumption of drugs, he added.
Lt-Col. Al Za’abi said the ages of the suspects indicated that the youth in the country are engaging themselves in harmful activities.
