With a few days left for the Eid Al Adha, the Dubai Charity Association has contributed feast clothes for children of 1,200 low-income families.
The beneficiaries included 280 families of orphans already sponsored by the leading charity society in the country, according to Ahmad Mohammed Mismaar, Secretary General of the Dubai Charity Association.
"The distributed Eid clothes, worth Dh223,000, included male and female attires spanning local kandura, abaya, handbags, shoes and whatever necessary clothes needed."
These are apart from the monthly allowances paid on a regular basis to the eligible destitute families registered with the association founded in Dubai in 1980 under the name Al-Urwatu Al-Wuthqa, he added.
"Eid clothes, part of a major charitable and humanitarian programme run by the association, are a great help to low-income families and bring happiness to their children during the Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha."
The initiative, in line with the association's vision to make indigent people ease their suffering, is also a good chance to present gifts to those young children, Mismar added.
"Such a kind gesture would not have been possible without the exceptional support from lots of philanthropists here, including big companies which contribute large amounts of clothes for this vulnerable segment of the society."
Official figures show that the association contributed Eid clothes worth Dh250,000 to the eligible low-income families and orphans listed with the association during the Eid Al Fitr.
The association has so far devotedly run 38,131 philanthropic projects in 41 countries in three continents - Asia, Africa and Europe - over the last 22 years from 1994 to May 2016.
The list of accomplished projects included 9,298 mosques, 9,255 water wells, 8,948 general projects, let alone 8,927 endowment ventures, 1,220 projects for productive families, 289 schools, 134 dispensaries, and 60 orphanages.
