DUBAI — Dubai Municipality (DM) yesterday launched 'Beat the Heat with Prolyte', a public awareness campaign to prevent heat-related hazards this summer.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, the Acting Director General of DM, said the 10-day campaign would cover different labour camps in Al Quoz and Sonapur, bus and Abra stations, construction sites, residential areas, parks and DM centres.
The campaign is being held in cooperation with National Trading and Pharmaceutical Est. (NTPE).
As part of the campaign, posters, brochures and leaflets will be distributed at various sites, including DM's main office, Burj Dubai construction site, Sabkha Abra, Old Souq Abra etc. Banners and kiosks will also be put up in offices and labour camps.
Two educators on each stand will distribute Prolyte leaflets, educate the public about heat stroke, and distribute Prolyte drink to people working in heat. Four teams will carry out activities from 8am to 6pm.
The posters and banners talk about the symptoms of heat stroke as well as the first aid and precautions for heat exhaustion. The illustrated leaflets provide details about types of heat illnesses, how much water to be taken in summer, and the people who are susceptible to heat illnesses.
"Simple measures such as recognising the symptoms of heat-related stress and giving proper first aid to the victims can help save lives," said Lootah.
Redha Hassan Salman, Director of the Public Safety Department at DM, said the campaign would help people learn the steps to be taken during summers.
