Dubai Police resolves 17,668 non-payment of wages complaints

DUBAI — The Dubai Police has resolved 17,668 complaints from labourers regarding non-payment of salaries since the launch of the Labour Rights Protection Programme in November, and the total money paid to labourers as a result of this amounted to more than Dh9, 542,881.

The officer in charge of the Department of Human Rights at Dubai Police to protect the rights of labourers has received 30 complaints through the hotline toll free number 8005005. The department has solved 18 cases and is working on the rest.

Lieutenant Riyad Abdul Rahman from the Dubai Police Human rights Department said that their team visited 10 labour camps. The labourers expressed their gratitude for the department's concern for them.

He said that the two teams recently formed would visit all the labour camps in Dubai.

He confirmed that most of the companies in Dubai adhered to the norms of labour rights, have perfect financial systems, and abided by the labour law.

He said the 24-hour hotline established by the department was to make sure that labourers were getting their salaries on time. He warned companies violating the rights of labourers of stern action.

He added that the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Department of Naturalisation and Residency, Dubai Municipality and the Permanent Committee for Labour issues were fully cooperating with the Dubai Police in solving labour problems.
