The Dubai Police has decided to set up the Modern Laboratory of Forensic Science and Criminology at an estimated cost of Dh300 million.

The new laboratory will have an independent organisational structure and will include a human remains department with five sections, in addition to a social criminology evidence department with four sections. There will also be a specialised forensic science department which will include 11 sections; a technology forensic department with three sections; and an engineering forensic department with three sections.

Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said the police have to train technicians to work in the new laboratory. Around 40 students have been sent to universities abroad to study forensic science and criminology.

He recommended sending students abroad to study these subjects during the next five years.
