DUBAI - Dubai Airport security forces has received the "Excellence in Aviation Security" Award, an international recognition for its distinguished role in aviation security.
This recognition to the Dubai Police was awarded jointly by Singapore Airlines Terminal Services (SATS) and Murdoch University in Australia.
Dubai Police won the most distinguished category in the award scheme, "Best Overall Aviation Security Organisation".
This highly contested award is given away every two years as part of the International Aviation Security Conference that is organised by Singapore Airlines. Previous winners of the award include Australian Federal Police, Quantas Airways and Aviation Security Company of Hong Kong. Dubai Police was recognised for having taken an active part in not only increasing aviation security awareness in this region but also for taking an active role in working with their global stakeholders in a coordinated manner.
The amount of traffic flow through Dubai airport and the prevention of security related incidents in this region were also considered by an eminent panel of judges.
The smooth security operations during the IMF and World Bank 2003 meetings and Dubai Aerospace were also measured by the awards panel.
Brigadier Mohamed Al Qemzi attended represented the Dubai Police at the award ceremony.
In his speech, on behalf of Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim Head of Dubai Police, he emphasised that the various achievements of security organisations in the UAE are the outcome of an awareness of the shared responsibility for security among all sectors of the community cascading down from the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and General Shaikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister.
He added that the distinguished aviation security of Dubai Airport is a mere detail in the canvas of safety and security the UAE enjoys under its leadership.
