Dubai Police's Safe Sail app to ensure cruise safety

Dubai - All cruise passengers have to do is register their itineraries and stops in the app.

Going on a cruise soon? Safe Sail, the newest application of the Dubai Police, may come in handy as it would allow you to instantly get in touch with authorities during emergencies.
Launched on Wednesday, the police's Safe Sail app can track the cruise's journey; warn users about any delays during the trip; identify hazards; send distress requests directly to the Dubai Police; and facilitate rapid emergency response.
All cruise passengers have to do is register their itineraries and stops in the app.
"Considering that Dubai has become a leading cruise destination, the Dubai Police ensure that the latest innovative technologies are used to ensure people's safety, security and happiness - on top of the dedicated work that the police do round the clock. We aim to be a pioneer in policing not only in the UAE, but across the world," Maj-Gen Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Ports Affairs, said at the launch of the app.
Besides all the security features, Safe Sail can also serve as a useful tool for tourists to enjoy their trip and learn more about the destinations they are visiting. It can spot dive sites, for an instance, and it also offers free, user-friendly maps.
Maj-Gen Bin Thani also said that the app has been carefully studied by a number of tech experts. It was also presented to the police's partners in the maritime sector, which held a series of technical meetings that can ensure the application would serve its purpose.
Col Saeed Salem Saeed Al Madhani, acting director of the port police staion, said Safe Sail covers all the areas of jurisdiction of the port authorities.
Besides Maj-Gen Bin Thani and Col Al Madhani, the Safe Sail launch was also attended by Maj-Gen Kamel Butti Al Suwaidi, director-general of the Dubai Police operations room; Brig Khalid Nasser Al Razouqi, director of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence; and representatives from different government authorities.

The Dubai Police are currently testing a smart device that can directly connect to their operations room with just a press of a button.
Called SPS Express, the new technology features an emergency phone tower that is currently installed in Al Rigga area, where experiments are being done.
Brig Ali Ghanim, Director of Al Muraqqabat Police Station, said that once it passes all tests, SPS Express will be installed across the emirate at airports, parks, souqs, and key locations to help the public connect with Dubai Police officers in case of emergencies.
The new technology also includes an HD CMOS camera, night vision, video and audio talk features, remote monitor and broadcast, alarm integration, excellent vandal proof IP65 and IK10. It has various connection modes, including 4G LTE and Wi-Fi.
"The Dubai Police is committed to using the latest technologies to combat crimes and provide excellent services to residents," the officer said.
