Selling and buying predatory animals and birds in the emirate will be illegal in the emirate, the Dubai Municipality announced on Friday.
Effective from July, the Federal Law No. 22 of 2016 outlaws buying and selling of any predatory beings of the wild like lions, cheetahs, panthers, tigers, leopards, hyenas, crocodiles, wild dogs, predatory reptiles, eagles, vultures etc.
The list also includes zebras, African wild asses, kiangs, giraffes, rhinoceroses, bears, ?weasels, aardvarks, mongooses, pronghorns, as well as wild birds such as ostriches, gulls, penguins, cassowaries, marsupials, xenarthrans, bats, snakes, lizards, scorpions, spiders, and others.
Zuhoor Al Sabbagh, director of public health services department at Dubai Municipality, said: "The ban aims to protect people's lives from dangerous animals." Under the new ruling, all predatory animals should be registered at the municipality, she added.
Domestic animals like cats, dogs, rats, cows, sheep, camels, llamas, alpacas and other non-dangerous animals are not included in the ban.
In early January, the UAE has passed a law banning the private ownership and trade of wild and dangerous animals.
